Celebrate wildflowers, creativity, culture and community in the heart of Wildflower Country as Mullewa’s annual four-day wildflower festival, Outback Bloom, returns to Mullewa Town Hall from Thursday, August 27, to Sunday, August 30.

Held annually during peak wildflower season, the festival showcases the extraordinary biodiversity of the Mullewa region through a diverse program of guided walks, expert talks, workshops, cultural experiences and family-friendly activities.

Outback Bloom will officially open at the Mullewa Town Hall on Thursday, August 27, with visitors able to explore the renowned Wildflower Show and Bushland Diorama, featuring hundreds of locally collected wildflower specimens labelled with their scientific and common names and immersive displays.

Daily guided wildflower and bush trail walks along the Mullewa Bushland Trail and Wildflower Walk will provide visitors with opportunities to discover local flora in its natural environment, while informative presentations from wildflower experts, photographers, historians, and community members will offer unique insights into the region’s ecology, heritage and attractions.

A festival highlight includes Inside Wildflower Country with Glenda and Murray Blythe, which takes place in the Marquee at different times across the three days. The two-hour session will feature insider mud maps to the best wildflower locations, the latest information on current blooming hotspots, and tips on how to uncover the hidden floral treasures of the Mid West.

Bush Tucker Journey with Wendy Merry will also take place in the Marquee on Thursday, August 27, and invites visitors to learn about the history and traditions of the Southern Yamatji People.

Visitors can also enjoy wildflower painting and photography workshops, native seed card making and heritage talks exploring the legacy of Monsignor John Hawes.

Outback Bloom also provides an important platform for community participation and volunteering, fostering local pride while attracting visitors from across Western Australia and beyond. 

Open daily with country-style teas and light lunches available, the festival offers a welcoming and authentic regional experience that celebrates the landscapes, stories, and people that make Mullewa a leading wildflower destination.
